Today I am letting my dd write the post I’m bit scared.
here’s me getting a drink with my sister
Me and my brothers are planting a garden. Growing stuff is awesome! We can get the ground ready, yay I get to play in the dirt. Then, we poke the seeds in. Mom’s really picky about it and says they have a “coryoptal” (coleoptile) thing and will only grow so far without sun. Whatever. Then we water and that’s it.
Here’s our tomatoes we need a fence for rabbits
Here’s my brother making hills for squash
Some pretty rainbow clouds my brother said it was going to rain ice cream (sun dogs)
Lightning can strike miles from the actual storm
It always amazes me how many people don’t take safety precautions when the weather is or could get nasty. This week’s lessons for my kiddos have revolved around lightning/storm safety.
Damage in our yard from recent storm
There are 2 major rules for lightning safety that EVERYONE needs to remember the first is simple. “When it roars go indoors.” See simple if there is thunder there is lightning and at that point seek shelter. The other rule is the 30/30 rule. If the thunder sounds 30 seconds or less after the strike its close enough to strike you. Stay indoors for 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder. See 30/30 rule.
Moore, Ok tornado
The second thing is if you hear the sirens in your town get to your shelter! After tornados like Moore, OK you would think people would become aware but you still see videos by yahoos on their porch with their camera wanting to see/tape the twister.
I know, as a kid, it seemed like every storm that came thru the sirens went off or we spent half the summer in tornado watches that never even lead to rain. The thing is radars and weather knowledge has increased exponentially since I was a child. Brave storm chasers/scientists like Reed Timmer have continued to bring new information that leads to more accurate warnings.
Basically, if there is a siren there is rotation, if there is rotation it could quickly end up on the ground as a tornado, and if there is a tornado you want to be safe.
Aftermath of Moore, Ok
In the minds of Americans this weekend kicks off summer! Its no different in my neck of the woods. My kids joined in the Memorial Day parade with their 4H club this morning. The rushing around was almost humorous. They needed their club shirts and nice pants and grabbed their posters. Ran out the door a little bit later than I had planned but not excessively, I swear! When to jump in the rig and click, click, click artrgggrahdjh! Called the DH to rescue us and jump the battery, he got to come with us, Yay! Showed up to the float muster dumped the kids and blew some kisses. Parked on Main St. by the library so we could steal wi-fi while waiting and then enjoyed the parade, got a ton of candy too.

My three year old is one the most conniving little imps ever! His adorable innocence can lull anyone, including me, into a false sense of security. He begs me daily to nap on my lap. This day was no different. He’s big brown eyes glancing up at me made me smile that “mom” smile. The one that you are thinking I will never be mad at this child again. Yeah right! He was being so so sweet. Looking at me with adoration that only a toddler can achieve. He reaches up a few times and pats my cheek lovingly. Once I even caught his chubby little hand with my lips showing him the adoration that only a mother can show. Then without warning his little hand sneaked up towards my face again. His finger was pointing and slid straight up my nose. The little devil!
I believe disasters like Moore, Oklahoma are chances to allow our humanity to shine! I have heard and seen many of the same popular videos and pictures everyone else has. But little known tales of greatness are hidden in the rubble. A man put out the call on Twitter asking for milk replacer to feed a litter newborn kittens. Storm chasers rushed to the area to help with rescue efforts. Yet there are people turning this into a sales pitch, fix your house with tools from Sears. Sickening! The tornado was targeting conservatives! Where is your decency? Was Hurricane Katrina an ethnic cleansing of liberals? No, disasters like these affect lives not politics. They affect people not just their tool supplies!
The town of Moore was devastated by a tornado this afternoon.
I love the smell of roundup in the morning. Okay maybe not but here are some familiar sights in my neck of the woods.
Sprayers doing burndowns
Tractors and planters
Flower beds needing weeded
